The 11th Annual Madison St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee is pleased to announce the 2008 Grand Marshall, Melanie Conklin.
Ms. Conklin is the Page Two columnist for the Wisconsin State Journal, a job she's held for three years since leaving the hectic pace of working in the Madison Mayor's Office as communications director for Mayor Dave O'Cieslewicz, as he likes to be called this time of year.
While her family, on both sides, hails from Ireland, she's a Madison native who has moved as far away as South America, but came back to the UW-Madison for graduate school. And she hasn't made the mistake of moving since then.
Past writing gigs include political columnist at Isthmus, as well as freelancing for The Progressive and other magazines. She lives in Madison with her husband Aaron Conklin and their appropriately Celtic-named offspring, Rowan and Aidan.
